‘The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 spoilers: Nina Dobrev announces return to episode 16

"The Vampire Diaries" fans were treated to the most exciting news this season. Nina Dobrev is officially returning to Season 8.

The actress herself made the announcement on Instagram on Thursday night and revealed that she is back on set for the filming for the hit The CW series. Dobrev's character, Elena Gilbert, will be part of episode 16.

She also shared a copy of the script which confirmed that the episode was written by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and directed by executive producer Plec. The title for episode 16 is "I Was Feeling Epic."

Unfortunately, Dobrev will only be back for one episode of "The Vampire Diaries" and it will be in the finale. Previously, Plec explained that that is where she wants to see Elena again.

While speaking with Nerdist, Plec revealed that she created an exciting finale episode for fans, but it is all up to Dobrev if her schedule can accommodate her character's return.

"The only thing I have been saying and will continue to say is that she is 100 percent committed to coming and we are 100 percent committed to having her. At this point, it is just logistics and I do not want to speak too soon because that would be crushing if we could not figure it out, but we are all extremely determined to," she said.

Following Dobrev's announcement, Plec and Williamson also released an official statement to TV Line expressing their excitement over the actress' official comeback.

"I am thrilled to bring this show to an end the way we always intended - with Nina back to help us say goodbye," she said. "I am so excited to have Nina back to ensure our farewell episode is truly epic!" Williamson added.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, episode 16 will air on The CW on March 10 at 8 p.m. EST.
