"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will most certainly see the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert.
During a recent promo of Dobrev's latest film, "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," the actress was asked to comment on reports that she will reprise her role in the finale for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.
Dobrev did not say yes or no, but she was seen smiling from ear to ear. The actress then said, "I give you a smile." Her answer once again triggered speculations that this was the actress' way of saying that she will be back.
Previously, executive producer Julie Plec told Nerdist that she already had a conversation with Dobrev a few months back, and she is on board with her plans. Plec added that the only reason Dobrev will not make it to the finale is if her schedule does not permit it.
"The only thing I have been saying and will continue to say is that she is 100 percent committed to coming and we are 100 percent committed to having her. At this point, it is just logistics and I do not want to speak too soon because that would be crushing if we could not figure it out, but we are all extremely determined to," she said.
Meanwhile, Plec also opened up about the remainder of Season 8 by saying that the upcoming episodes will be about redemption. The theme of good vs. evil has also been very evident in the show in the first eight episodes.
"Can you recover from the mistakes that you have made, can you make amends for the pain you have inflicted on others, is there hope for you or are you doomed to be punished for all eternity? We do not really deal in specifics of heaven and hell on this show but we have always talked about peace, and we have never really explored what the opposite of peace might be," she said.
In other news, there are rumors saying that Ian Somerhalder is not excited to see Dobrev back on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 set. While speaking Variety, the actor said that he does not think his character, Damon, deserves a happy ending.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
