Obsidian Entertainment have officially unveiled "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire," a sequel to their successful 2015 RPG. With the announcement the company has also launched a crowdfunding campaign on Fig. The campaign managed to hit its goal of $1.1 million in just 24 hours.
The original game launched its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter but for the sequel Obsidian launched the campaign on Fig, Polygon reported. The main difference between the two platforms is that while Fig offers backers a choice between equity investments or traditional backer rewards.
With the initial goal already met the crowdfunding campaign will aim to hit its stretch goals. As of the time of writing, the Fig page reveals that the next target is to earn $1.4 million. The campaign has currently earned $1.39 million with nearly a month left, indicating this goal will also be met quickly. More stretch goals will be revealed in the future.
"Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire" will pick up a few years following the events of the first game and players will still take on the role of the Watcher of Caed Nua. Throughout the game's campaign players will recruit familiar faces and new characters as well.
The main plot starts with the god of light and rebirth, Eothas, emerging from the ground right underneath the Watcher's keep. Thought long-dead, the god destroys everything and everyone in its path, leaving the Watcher for dead. The player must then hunt Eothas down and demand answers.
Several improvements are implemented such as a dynamic weather system and NPCs that will go about with their daily activities instead of being static and unmoving. The game also boasts a more impressive graphics engine, showcasing better effects and lighting.
No official release date has yet been announced for "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire" but like the first game it is expected to launch only for PC, Linux and Mac. The official trailer can be viewed below:
