A lot of bettors lost money with the results of the Miss Universe 2016 which just concluded in Manila on Sunday night. Miss France Iris Mittanaere was declared winner, while first runner-up is Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier and Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar was second runner-up.
Miss Colombia topped the bettors list with odds of 3.40 in Pinnacle, +250 in Sports Insights and 3.0 in William Hill. Miss France and Miss Haiti were not on the top 10 of Pinnacle.
Missed Predictions
In Sports Insight, Miss France was 12th with odds of +1000, while Miss Haiti was not on the top 33. In Odds Shark, Miss Colombia was in third place with odds of +600, while Miss France was in 9th place with odds of +1400 and Miss Haiti in 33rd place, tied with 14 other candidates. But Odds Shark was right in predicting a weak chance for Miss China Li ZhenYing who was excluded from the Top 13.
Had Miss Colombia won, it would have been the South American country’s revenge of Miss Universe host Steve Harvey who bungled the announcement of the Miss Universe 2015 when he named Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia as winner instead of Pia Wurtbach of the Philippines.
Steve Harvey’s 2015 Throwback
During the three-hour pageant, there was constant reference to his boo-boo, especially when the Top 13 semi-finalists were named and seventh contestant he called was Miss Colombia, followed by Miss Philippines Maxine Medina. Steve Harvey, who felt at this point his past was haunting him, asked Andrea Tovar how do Colombians feel about him?
She replied that many of her countrymen still hated him. The chance of a déjà vu was eliminated following the trimming of the contestants to three finalists with Miss Philippines excluded. After Miss Colombia was named second runner-up and the choice of winner between Miss Haiti and Miss Israel, Pia Wurtzbach gave Steve Harvey a pair of eyeglasses just to make sure he reads the right name this time.
Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittanaere is a 23-year-old graduate of Dental Surgery. She was born in the town of Lille and is listed as fond of sports, traveling and cooking new French dishes. She is a volunteer at Bienvenue-Tongasoa and Les Bonnes Fees.
