Xiaomi may be setting up another smartphone under its Redmi Pro series. According to the latest leaks, a new Redmi Pro 2 smartphone was spotted on a Chinese microblogging website, which may ditch the dual-camera setup and may include a Snapdragon mobile chipset.
The recent leak on the second iteration of Redmi Pro model originated from Weibo, coming from a serial leakster with the @Kjuma handle. The said tipster has posted image renders of what appeared to be the Redmi Pro 2, alongside the smartphone's key hardware and pricing details, BGR India reported.
Following the revealed specs, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 will offer an enhanced mobile chipset and should downgrade into a single sensor camera. Unlike the first Redmi Pro model, the said smartphone will feature only one camera on the rear panel, which is a 12-megapixel shooter. It will sport other features such as Sony IMX362 sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus capability.
Another difference from the last year's model is its mobile chipset. According to Phone Arena, the new Redmi Pro 2 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC. The leaked image revealed the Snapdragon 660 processor housed inside the phone's internals, which is a successor to the octa-core Snapdragon 652.
In addition, the smartphone's battery capacity features a slight bump after it is boosted to 4,500mAh battery, prior to last year model's 4050mAh battery.
Another bit about the Redmi Pro 2 is its pricing. The alleged specs reveal two variants of the phone: a high-end variant of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage is pegged at roughly around $260, and a cheaper version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage onboard priced at around $230.
To recall, the Redmi Pro featured a 5.5-inch full HD OLED display and powered by 2.1GHz MediaTek Helio X20 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM inside. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. In the optics department, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro sports a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front-snapper.
On the software front, the Redmi Pro runs Android and is powered by a 4050mAh non removable battery. It measures 151.50 x 76.20 x 8.15 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 174.00 grams.
If the latest leaks are to be believed, customers can expect the smartphone to make its debut soon.
