"Final Fantasy XV" still proves to be one of the most successful games of recent history. It was able to break even with its development costs on its launch day with its five million copies sold during that time.
In an interview with Dual Shockers, director Hajime Tabata said that surprisingly, it only needed half the total number copies projected to breakeven. It is not surprising for it to happen, as the "Final Fantasy" franchise still remains to be the fastest selling games in history.
Despite the success enjoyed by "Final Fantasy XV," it had to overcome significant obstacles during its ten-year development. It was able to get up after staying so much in development that it is remarkable how it has managed to sell around six million copies since its launch date.
According to Game Rant, the troublesome development of the game has led a lot of experts to believe that it was released unfinished. After all, there were enough complaints filed, saying that the game's story falls apart come its second half.
It was enough for Square Enix to plan patches to the game in order to address the issue, with one patch improving on the unclear story parts. Another patch is aimed to fix the controversial Chapter 13 of the game, which featured drastic changes in tone coupled with clumsily designed gameplay.
Also, Square Enix plans to release a set of DLCs that will fill the gaps within the main campaign's story line. It also allows players to take control of other party members for the first time in their very own story arcs, giving more depth to the story.
The gaps filled out by the DLCs include portions of where party members leave only to return later without any reason. Other than that, cosmetic items and costumes that provide special bonuses will be implemented as well.
"Final Fantasy XV" is available on PS4 and Xbox One. Here is the latest video for the game:
