When Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Anderson Silva expressed his desire to fight reigning lightweight champion Conor McGregor, almost everyone thought the bout is impossible from happening. However, McGregor does not close doors of a possible megafight against the Brazilian, saying he will put on his gloves if the price is right.
The outspoken Silva, who is considered the best mixed martial artist in history, has always been vocal about who he wants to fight next in the ring. Recently, he mentioned the middleweight champ Michael Bisping and McGregor as the fighters he wants to lock horns with. McGregor does not want to back down, saying the UFC should "make sure the numbers are right, make sure the situation is right," MMA Junkie reported.
But Silva would have to wait. The Irish fighter is still on a hiatus from the MMA promotion as he is going to attend to his longtime partner, Dee Devlin, who will be giving birth to their first child this year. Also, McGregor looks to set his UFC career aside to pursue a fight against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., a bout that would possibly be worth of more than double or triple of what he earns in the UFC.
According to Silva, the reason why he wants to fight McGregor is not about the title but the challenge of facing an unorthodox fighter, Express reported. The Brazilian added that he does not disrespect McGregor, rather, he thinks a bout against the UFC's biggest star will be the "great fight for the rest of my life."
Silva has also revealed a fight against former UFC champ George St. Pierre interests him but it looks like the McGregor bout is at the top of his priority. Silva has not won in his last five fights, losing four while dropping one no contest.
