Verizon will be developing and launching their own Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch dubbed Wear24. The carrier has also announced that they will be carrying the new LG Watch Sport that was leaked several weeks ago.
Google recently launched the Android Wear 2.0 operating system for current and upcoming smartwatches. The LG Watch Sport and Verizon's Wear24 device will be two of the first ones to carry the new and updated OS.
Earlier leaks pointed to AT&T carrying the new smartwatch but an announcement from Verizon through its official website prove that they will be selling the LG Watch Sport and their own Wear24 device. Both of the devices will be able to connect to LTE networks for fast updates and downloads.
Verizon claims that the LG Watch Sport will allow users to text and call their friends without a smartphone. It will also allow them to make purchases using Android Pay.
Fitness geeks will be able to make use of the built-in coaching with Google Fit 2.0. Sounds can be streamed from Google Play Music via the 4G LTE data connection. Unfortunately, there is no news yet on whether it will allow other music streaming apps such as Tidal or Spotify.
Verizon's Wear24 Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch will also be available but the manufacturer has not been disclosed yet, according to Slash Gear. Just like the LG Watch Sport, it will also be able to take on texts and calls without being tethered to a smartphone nearby.
Interested customers can claim either of the smartwatches with the Single Device Plan from Verizon which allows users to consume 1GB data per month along with no caps on texts and calls. The plan costs only $10 per month but users can still choose other data plans to go along with Verizon Wear24 or the LG Watch Sport.
