Square Enix and Platinum Games released a new trailer for the upcoming "NieR: Automata" game. It features the game's protagonists expressing human emotions despite being androids.
According to Game Rant, the latest trailer for "NieR: Automata" revealed last week is like an anime version of the hit TV series "Westworld." The video introduces the android protagonists 2B, 9S, and A2 and even in their brief screen time, the androids are shown to have the capabilities to experience human-like emotions in a way similar to the hosts found in the HBO drama.
As seen on the video, a character is assigned for 2B's maintenance, which "Westworld" fans surely find similar to Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) running a diagnostic test on Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood). Also, it becomes clear that not all the androids like the idea of being created exclusively for the purpose of fighting and dying for their human masters.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Engadget, "NieR: Automata" director Taro Yoko says that the game will allow the player to perform new actions as well as new mechanics that change the way how they play the game. This is rather than just going through a flat progression scale where characters are upgraded and made more powerful.
Yoko even remarks that it is rare for any game system to have the breadth exhibited by "NieR: Automata" in a sense that it changes the core gameplay on a big scale. The mechanics shown in the demo is but a slice of what the full game offers, and it is interesting to see whether or not the director will live up to his promises.
Game producer Yosuke Saito remarks that the demo does not show the great story made by Yoko as well as the in-depth roleplaying elements in the gameplay. He says that these elements make the game enticing, not just the action and combat it has to offer.
"NieR: Automata" will be released for the PS4 on March 7 in North America. Here is the newest trailer for the game, called "Glory to Mankind"
