The lineup of Apple's next-generation smartphones this 2017 will include the iPhone 7s Plus, an all-new 5.8-inch iPhone with glass casing and reinforced by a stainless steel frame, and a 4.7-inch iPhone 7s with aluminum casing and a 5.5-inch iPhone encased in a yet to be specified material. Apple will begin production of the new handsets in the second quarter of this year.
As reported by DigiTimes, Foxconn Technology and Jabil Circuit will be the ones to supply the stainless steel metal frame of the reinforced glass chassis, while Catcher Technology will supply the aluminum alloy chassis. Another metal chassis subsidiary of Pegatron Technology, Casetek is said to have sent loads of engineering samples to the tech giant but Apple has not yet ordered any material from the company for its upcoming production.
Estimated at least US$ 1,000, the 5.8-inch model will reportedly adopt an OLED panel display. According to Mac Rumors, compared with LCDs, this display is typically more power-efficient and brighter. It also has faster response times, better color accuracy and wider viewing angles.
Apple's upcoming lineup which includes the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will reportedly be launched with another high-end handset dubbed as the iPhone X sometime in September. As of now, however, the features of the said phones remain uncertain and Apple has yet to comment on the veracity of the specs predicted by mobile enthusiasts.
According to KGI Securities' Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the first three models will come with a glass casing. However, Japanese website Mac Otakara recently claimed that the two models will retain their aluminum casing but will only feature some internal changes.
The internal changes in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will include the addition of a faster A11 chip, a 3D camera, improved IP68-rated water resistance, a new Taptic Engine and iris and facial recognition. Watch the preview for iPhone 7s and 7s Plus here:
