JTBC's "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon " got a pretty good start last Feb. 24, Friday, thanks partly to it being billed as the small screen comeback of lead actress Park Bo Young.
The new Friday-Saturday drama, which also stars Park Hyung Sik and Ji Soo, drew an average nationwide audience of 3.83 percent for its pilot, according to data from Nielsen Korea, as cited by The Korea Herald. Rival show "Tomorrow With You," top-billed by Shin Min Ah and Lee Je Hoon, had only 1.59 percent.
Directed by Lee Hyung Min, "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" tells the story of Do Bong Soon (Bo Young), a strong woman who desperately wants to become a delicate and exquisite one; and Ahn Min Hyuk (Hyung Sik), the CEO of a gaming company who hides his pain underneath his cheeky demeanor. The two become entangled in a murder case and end up reluctantly living together for security purposes.
It is Bo Young's first television project since 2015's "Oh My Ghostess." In between that and this year's comeback, she took her talents to the big screen and have starred in "Collective Invention" and "You Call It Passion." For Hyung Sik and Ji, the series is their follow-up drama after starring in the KBS 2TV's "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" and JTBC's "Fantastic," respectively.
Since "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" follows a strong female character, the new series is bound to inspire comparisons to the recently concluded "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo." PD Lee, however, distanced the new JTBC drama to the latter during a promotional press conference on Feb. 22, Soompi reported.
Unlike other romantic-comedy drama, "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" features tons of bromance between the male lead stars. He then promises the JTBC drama will surely bring laughter to Korean audiences. Check it out below:
