Jeff Bass is one of the persons who know Marshall Mathers III, professionally known as Eminem, very well as a person and as a musician. The music producer, along with his brother Mark Bass, is known for his collaborations with the "Rap God" rapper.
Knowing Eminem and working with him has changed Jeff as a musician and a person. In an interview with Billboard, the producer said the Detroit rapper had "that gift, that artist's gift of creating."
"You see all of these people who are trying to make it in the business," Jeff said. "And you never get past a certain plateau."
In 2002, Jeff collaborated with Eminem on the song "Lose Yourself," which went on to become the first number-one hit of the latter in the United States, where it sold more than 6 million copies. Still, it failed to beat "Love the Way You Lie" and "Not Afraid" as Eminem's best-selling song.
"Lose Yourself" was a success not only in the U.S. but also in many other countries including the United Kingdom and Australia. Having stayed on top of the charts for 23 weeks, it was declared by the Guinness Book of World Records as the Longest Running Single at Number One for a Rap Song.
In 2002, Eminem starred in "8 Mile." "Lose Yourself" was one of the songs in the film's soundtrack album.
Eminem wrote the lyrics of the song and created the music with Jeff and Luis Resto. In 2003, it became the first rap song to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Both Eminem and Jeff did not attend the awarding ceremony. Present during the event was Resto, who gave the acceptance speech.
In other news, Eminem recently signed a deal with Buffalo-based hip-hop label Griselda Records. The deal enables Shady Records to go into business with brothers Westside Gunn and Conway, All Hip Hop reported.
