Along with his brother Mark Bass, Jeff Bass takes pride in the works he did with "Rap God" rapper Eminem. In a recent interview, Jeff was asked how he was changed by his relationship and collaborations with Eminem.
"I've learned how artists are with producers." Bass told Billboard. "Him and I had set this bar that was just so high."
Jeff collaborated with Eminem in 2002 on the song "Lose Yourself," which went on to become the first number-one hit of the latter in the United States, where it sold more than 6 million copies. It is the third best-selling song of Eminem next to "Love the Way You Lie" featuring Rihanna and "Not Afraid."
Outside the U.S., "Lose Yourself" was also successful particularly in Australia and the United Kingdom. The song stayed on top of the charts for 23 weeks, which earned it a recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the Longest Running Single at Number One for a Rap Song.
Eminem wrote the lyrics of the song and created the music with Jeff and Luis Resto. In 2003, it became the first rap song to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Both Eminem and Jeff did not attend the awarding ceremony. Present during the event was Resto said in his acceptance speech that Eminem was "creative" and he has "symphonies in his head."
"Lose Yourself" was one of the songs in the soundtrack album of "8 Mile." Directed by the late Curtis Hanson, the film starred Eminem with Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, Evan Jones, Omar Benson Miller, Eugene Byrd, Taryn Manning, Larry Hudson, Michael Shannon, Anthony Mackie, Malik Barnhardt, Mary Hannigan, Chloe Greenfield, DJ Head, Obie Trice, the late Proof, the late De'Angelo Wilson and the late Brittany Murphy.
