JTBC's ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’ is an introduction of Korea’s Wonder Woman; 4 reasons for the series’ success

The on-going Korean drama "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" from JTBC continues to pull the ratings up with the introduction of Park Bo Young's refreshing character Do Bong Soon, or what can be considered as Korea's Wonder Woman.

The powerhouse leads of the drama include Park Hyung Sik, Ji Soo and Park Bo Young, who play refreshing and light roles in the hit drama. Hyung Sik, who seemed to have a sudden career boost with the recent success of the series "Hwarang" was considered to have contributed to the current sensation of "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon." However, according to Yahoo News, Bo Young's character, which is nowhere near the stereotypical feminine leads in other K-dramas, pulled so much interest among viewers that equally contributed to the increasing ratings of the show.

In the story, Bong Soon possesses unusual strength that she inherited from her ancestors, although she chose to keep this fact from others - afraid of suffering from the consequences she would experience like what happened to her mother.

Nevertheless, the show's producer, Song Won Seob, recently clarified what he thinks the reason why the drama was well-received, Soompi reported. According to him, the drama may be a romantic comedy for the bubbly and light attitude of the characters, but it also highlights and uplifts the role of women in the society with the portrayal of Bo Young.

"Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" also portrays the dilemma of many young people out there who have talents but do not realize how to use them in the same way, as Do Bong Soon is clueless as to how and where to use her strength.

Reports also claim that the unconventional plot and theme of "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" made its initial episodes worth watching. Since it does not conform with conventional twists in stories, viewers seem to have a hard time guessing what will happen next, and this makes them look forward to the coming episodes more.

Meanwhile, others claim that the undeniable chemistry between Bo Young and Hyung Shik plays a great help in the high rating of "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon." However, many are also looking forward to the brewing bromance between the two male leads in the show - Hyung Sik and Ji Soo.
