The "Star Wars" franchise is revving up its spin-off titles starting with the release of the blockbuster hit "Rogue One" and the "Han Solo" movie. As fans expect more spin-off movies from a galaxy far, far away, there are rumblings about a potential film centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Actor Ewan McGregor said he's up to do it.
McGregor appeared as Obi-Wan Kenobi in three "Star Wars" prequels, and it appears he's set to reprise his role in a standalone film. However, the 46-year-old actor told Entertainment Weekly that there hasn't been any official offer, nor has he discussed anything with studio and movie execs.
Nevertheless, McGregor expressed his interest in fulfilling his jedi duties once more as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the character's solo movie. "But I've always said that I'd be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes," the actor said.
It has been confirmed that Disney is planning to produce 12 more "Star Wars" movies until 2020. As reported by Den of Geek, 12 films are being scheduled for release sometime from 2017 to 2020.
The list will kick off with "Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi," which will come out in December this year. It will be followed by the "Han Solo" spin-off movie, which is currently in production. Another spin-off movie is said to focus on Boba Fett.
With that said, it's likely that McGregor's "Obi-Wan Kenobi" spin-off movie is one of the 12 "Star Wars" movies Disney is planning to release.
In a previous interview, McGregor shared his thoughts on what could be a potential plot to his solo Obi-Wan film. According to the actor, he "always thought" there's still an untold story of Obi-Wan from the years between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope," where Alec Guinness played the Jedi Knight in the latter.
"I've always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness' first one," McGregor said. "It would be fun to film that story now that I'm older. I'd be the right age. I'm 45 - Alec Guinness was what, 60? I could do two of them!"
