Nintendo has announced that the company is developing a new hardware platform named the NX. They have also signed an exclusive deal with DeNA to bring first party titles to smartphones, tablets and other platforms.
In a recently held conference, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced that the company is working on a new platform, but quickly said that they may not be able to discuss more about it at the moment.
The company has also signed an agreement with mobile game distribution company DeNA which will allow them to bring their first party titles including Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda among others to mobile platforms, according to a report from Venture Beat.
Based on this new deal, DeNA will share 10 percent of its stocks with Nintendo while they will give them 1.24 percent of their own.
Nintendo which has always been strict on keeping the intellectual property on their home consoles, but it has officially reduced their restrictions and will be venturing into new platforms. Ninendo and DeNA will introduce a membership service which will be available on multiple platforms including Wii U, 3DS, smartphones, tablets and desktop PCs. A new lineup of games will be launched under this service which will include first party characters and IPs.
During the conference, the executive also announced that existing games will not be ported to players through this service but rather new ones will be created exclusively for this distribution platform. The new NX hardware will most probably be a home console based on the images revealed by them in the meet, added Eurogamer.
