Microsoft will be officially shutting down its once dominant web browser, the Internet Explorer. The decision to take down the browser in the upcoming release of Windows 10 is in order to give way to Microsoft's newest browser only known as Project Spartan.
Microsoft marketing chief Chris Capossela told attendees of the Microsoft Convergence that his team is now putting up finishing touches to the new browser but has not come up with a new name yet.
During its heydays, the Internet Explorer is being used by more than one billion users and is responsible for more than half the traffic on the Internet. However, due to technological advances in the web browser industry the Microsoft's default web browser just cannot compete with Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome which is faster and sports an interactive and streamlined design.
In addition to Internet Explorers diminishing appeal is its lack of security protocols. Many tech analysts claim that among the top web browsers in the market right now, Internet Explorer is one of the most vulnerable to security attacks.
Even the then-head of the Microsoft's Internet Explorer division said in a conference how they messed up with the development and overall design of its default web browser.
According to The Telegraph, the decision to drop Internet Explorer in the latest version of Windows is its strategic way to rejuvenate the deteriorating command of the Windows operating system in the current market.
A separate report from The Verge claims that the Internet Explorer will still be offered in some variants of the Windows 10 OS. This is in order to support backward and enterprise compatibility especially for those companies that has massive number of computers as well as servers which will face a serious problem if they try to migrate to a newer OS or web browser.
