Following several complaints from customers regarding the status of air bag light always being deactivated even when the seat was occupied by an adult passenger, Nissan is being probed by the US government for having failed to fix the complaints during the recalls in 2013 and 2014 as reported by TIME.
Moreover, the makers have designed the vehicles in such a manner that when the passenger seat is occupied by a child, then the air bag is disabled by the software to account for safety against the powerful inflation. Though Nissan Motor Co. said in a statement that the issues were fixed during the recalls but more than hundred people have complained to the National Highway Traffic Security Administration about the problems persisting subsequent to the recalls.
The authorities are trying to determine if the cause of the above mentioned problems is a sensor malfunction which the Japanese car giant failed to fix during its recalls which examined around a million vehicles worldwide. Furthermore, the recall affected Altima (2013 and 2014 models), Leaf electric car, Pathfinder SUV and Sentra, as well as the 2013 NV200 Taxi and the Infiniti JX35. It was also remarked that some updates were also required by QX60 and Q50 Infiniti (2014) SUV. International Business Times reported that about 990,000 of the 1,053,479 vehicles recalled belonged to the US.
Nissan has admitted of having received reports of a couple of accidents wherein the Airbags failed to inflate prior to the recall of 2013 and 2014. Furthermore, the second largest automobile maker from Japan seemed to believe that the above was caused by a software malfunction.
Besides, recalls by major automobile makers has been increasing in numbers day by day. International Business Times also reported that Honda recalled almost 104,871 cars owing to this problem.
