Actress Angelina Jolie had undergone a double mastectomy two years earlier and now she has done the deed again by opting for the removal of her ovaries as there is a gene mutation which was recently discovered in a test.
Angelina Jolie, the ambassador for the UN, has braved the knife once again to get her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to be risk free from the strong chances of cancer.
The BRCA1 gene was found to be present in her tests. It is a known fact that her mother carried the same gene and unfortunately passed away of breast cancer at the age of 49. Jolie did not want to go through the same turmoil and hence decided to get rid of all the organs which this gene mutation can effect, as reported by CNN.
Jolie said in an interview that she had been sitting upon the option to get her ovaries removed for quite some time now, but finally decided to go for it when a blood report showed traces that the gene has started to do some damage in her body.
Meanwhile, Telegraph reports that numerous charities have backed her brave move and said that this would help to raise awareness and possibly save the lives of thousands of people, who can follow suit.
After hearing about this, her husband Brad Pitt flew back immediately from France, where he was shooting for his next project. Jolie was happy that she had the unconditional support of her husband through this ordeal.
After a successful surgery, Jolie was tested for potential tumors in her body and test came back absolutely negative, giving the Pitt's a huge sigh of relief.
Jolie has unknowingly become the face of this disease and urges women who might be having this gene to look for options, instead of sitting back and waiting for the disease to take over.
