United States officials confirmed on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is moving their military equipment and artillery near the Yemen border as they fear that the Yemeni conflict might worsen and it will affect the country.
According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia felt that the situation in its neighboring country will soon worsen because the Iranian-supported Houthi Shi'ite militants advanced southward last September and took over the capital Sanaa and seized a number of cities. Also, it was reported recently that this group is already moving closer to the base of Saudi Arabian President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
Saudi Arabia is working with the US to try and stop Iran and their militants and the military equipment being moved near the border is both for offensive and defensive purposes. A US official shared in a statement that the military buildup near the Yemen border is quite significant and the Saudi Arabian military is already preparing air strikes that would defend them if the Houthis will attack them.
There is no available information as to how many military personnel were deployed or what is the exact size of military equipment being built in the area. Saudi Arabia is backing the Hadis and the Houthis are in conflict with this group. The Hadis fled Sanaa back in February and are taking refuge in Aden, Saudi Arabia.
Aside from this, The Guardian reported that another risk that Saudi Arabia is concerned with his the oil spillage because the border is where the richest oil deposits are found.
Moreover, Yemen asked the United Nations Security Council to back the military action by willing countries in order to stop the attacks by the Houthi militants. All remaining personnel from the US in Yemen already extracted them from the area due to the worsening conflict.
