Having four more molecular types, breast cancer is not a single disease, but a group comprised of four sub types making it more deadly.
According to Voice Chronicle, each of these sub types has its own medical treatment and no two sub types have the same treatment; and many factors like age and race decide its occurrence.
Researchers at the North American Association of Cancer Registries (NAACCR), the American Cancer Society, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) have classified the huge category of breast cancer according to the tumor subtypes. They believe that the classification will make it easier to help improve the treatment of the disease.
The four sub types of breast cancer are Luminal A which is HR+/HER2-, Luminal B which is HR+/HER2+, HER2-enriched which is HR-/HER2+ and triple-negative which is HR-/HER2-, reported ESB TRIB in its latest report. According the research, the first one is the most deadly and the second one is less deadly and so on so forth.
Betsy A. Kohler, a researcher at the NAACCR, said in an interview that strongly defining and understanding the four sub types of breast cancer is the key to fight this disease and then finally beat it.
It was also concluded that the non-Hispanic black women have the highest occurrence of breast cancer fatalities all over the world.
Director of NCI Dr. Harold Varmus said that this could be a welcome step as it makes it easier for doctors to diagnose and treat the cancer; they will not end up giving the wrong treatment for any of the sub type now.
