"The Big Bang Theory" actor Johnny Galecki has recently joined the cast members of the upcoming horror film "Rings."
Galecki will play the role of Gabriel, according to Deadline. His character was described as a "handsome, pleasure seeking professor" who will mentor and assist a couple who viewed the cursed videotape. Galecki's inclusion in the horror sequel also signals the actor's full retreat from the CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory."
Aside from the sitcom, Galecki is also known for his roles in various works such as "Christmas Vacation" (1989), "Hancock" (2008), "Family Guy" (2009), "In Time" (2011), and "Entourage" (2011).
The actor also opened Alcide Bava Productions, his Warner Bros.-based production label designed to advance television series as well as feature films. Alcide Brava was joined by former De Line Pictures President Andrew Haas, who is now its Vice President. Currently, Alcide Bava is helming Bobby Miller's "The Master Cleanse", which stars Galecki, Anna Friel, Oliver Platt, and Anjelica Huston.
The horror saga can regain its momentum in a comeback given that the sequel's final cut is sufficient, according to Cinema Blend. Paramount also assumes that audience will watch the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" in the television until "Rings" hit the theaters, with Galecki's appearing. Galecki's addition to the movie, transitioning from a sitcom to a horror film, also signals his widening coverage in the realm of entertainment.
Aside from Galecki as Gabriel, the film will also star Matilda Lutz as Julia and Alex Roe as Holt. Andrea Teegarden and Andrea Powell will also star in the film, but roles are unconfirmed yet.
Earlier reports claimed that Aidan Keller will be featured in the upcoming sequel of Paramount's horror saga.
The film will be helmed by F. Javier Gutierrez, together with Guillermo del Torro, Doug Davison, Ry Lee, Neal Edelstein, John Powers Middleton, Laurie MacDonald, Amy Sayres, Walter Parkes, and J.C. Sprink as his co-producers. Koji Suzuki, David Loucka, Akiva Goldsman, and Jacob Aaron Estes are set to write the script.
Paramount Pictures will distribute the film. Along with Paramount, Dreamworks, Benderspink, and Vertigo Entertainment will oversee the production.
"Rings" is set to hit theaters on Nov. 13.
