Google's Android store is growing at a rapid pace and even before Microsoft could find a way to allow developers to let them run on Windows, the company has officially announced the ARC tool to make it possible.
App Runtime for Chrome is the new developer's tool that Google has launched which allows majority of Android apps to seamlessly work on Windows, Mac or even Linux operating systems. They also allow developers to create an app for Android which will be fully compatible with the budding Chrome OS.
If a device supports Chrome browser, it should be able to run all Android applications and games. Google kept the developer tool within a limited circle for a long time but it is now available for everyone so that they can port their content to multiple platforms with little effort, according to ArsTechnica.
The app named ARC Welder is what developers need. All they have to do is use the apk file of the application to check if it is compatible with other operating systems. Even users can manually download the program from the web and test any APK file on their Windows desktop.
The team at The Next Web tested Twitter app and it worked seamlessly on a Windows 8 operating system. The ARC runs on Android 4.4 Kit Kat and is yet to be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is obvious that the developers at Google are not confident with Lollipop because it has a lot bugs to be fixed whereas Kit Kat is the best operating system that they could opt for, at the moment.
Only selected group of apps are compatible with Windows at the moment but when Microsoft officially launches the unified Windows 10 this summer, Google will be ready with their entire collection.
