Previously with an unconfirmed role, Ed Skrein has revealed the character he is playing in "Deadpool."
"Deadpool" hype continues to build up from the costume tease, the battle of ratings, to the inclusion of cast members such as Brianne Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Yesterday, another tease hyped the fans as another character will enter the solo movie of the "Merc with a mouth."
"Game of Thrones" actor Skrein posted a photo in Twitter. His photo post shows a picture of his chair on set with the movie title plus the character name, Ajax, which can also be seen as hashtags. This confirms that the actor will be playing the role of Ajax in Deadpool's solo adventure.
Born in Camden, London, the actor is known for his appearance in films such as "Ill Manors" and "The Sweeney" in 2012, and "Northmen - A Viking Saga" in 2014. His projects for this year include "Sword of Vengeance," "The Transported Refueled," "Tiger House," "The Model," and "Kill Your Friends."
Skrein's casting was first made official in January and he was assumed to be playing the lead antagonist, as per Cinema Blend.
The actor's character, Ajax who was formerly known as Francis, was a government operative who underwent cybernetic procedures under Doctor Killerbrew's Weapon X Program. The experiments resulted in his inability to feel pain and boosted intuitive abilities and strength, as per Screencrush. Weapon X rejects were brought to Killerbrew's facility and were subjected to sadistic experiments.
Francis was feared in the area, but that changed when Deadpool gave him sarcastic remarks. Francis tortured Worm, one of Deadpool's friends, for the Merc to stop his sarcasm. Deadpool eased the suffering of his friend by snapping his neck, which led Killerbrew to let Francis kill Deadpool by ripping the Merc's heart out.
Deadpool's healing factor was activated and brought him to back life. He attacked Francis by shooting him several times, killing him. Years after the incident, Francis was found to have survived and he began taking the identity of Ajax. He tracked down and assassinated a number of living members of the Weapon X project. He traced Doctor Killebrew in the Swiss Alps and asked him to lure Deadpool.
There are many battle encounters between Ajax and Deadpool in the comics. However, it is likely that Deadpool will hunt Ajax as "the one who almost put an end to his life." However, there are no final details on whether he will be the main villain to "Deadpool," as per Screencrush.
Along Skrein, other members of the cast include T.J. Miller as Jack Hammer/Weasel, Morena Baccarin Vanessa Carlysle/Copycat, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Hildebrand as Ellie Phimister/Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool.
Directed by Tim Miller, "Deadpool" is set to hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
