After the recent agreement between American and Chinese producers, a new sequel of the 2014 American action thriller film "Need for Speed" is being worked out.
Chinese film companies Jiaflix, 1905.com, and China Movie Channel had recently formed a joint venture with Electronic Arts (EA Games), an American developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games.
"This venture is another great endeavor to bridge the cultures between China and the West through films. We look forward to cooperating with excellent films and filmmakers to thrill and entertain movie lovers internationally with more outstanding films with Chinese labels," said one of the co-producers.
The sequel is still on the planning stages as the co-producers have not yet acquired the rights to the film.
Variety reported that the agreement between DreamWorks Pictures, the current owner of the film's rights, and the co-producers have not yet begun.
But China Movie Channel chairman Cao Yin is still looking forward that the sequel of the movie will happen. He stated that most of the scenes will be filmed in China, using more "Chinese talent and elements" than the previous film.
“We are excited to work with EA, one of the world's most recognized creative companies," Cao said.
"Need for Speed" is a 2014 film based on the series of video games by EA. Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Scott Mescudi, Imogen Poots, Ramón Rodríguez and Michael Keaton starred in the film.
The film was released by Touchstone Pictures, an American film production company owned by The Walt Disney Company, and was directed by Scott Waugh.
Despite the negative reviews from the viewers, the movie earned over $65 million from China alone and $200 million in the international market.
