A middle school student, 13, stole $25,000 from his grandfather, 83, over the spring break then started to give out $100 bills to his classmates on April 8, according to Ohio newspaper Medina Gazette.
Police officials from Medina and Medina Township are the ones handling the case but did not release other information as to how the money was stolen or what was the motive of the teenager in stealing the money and in giving parts of it away to his classmates.
According to an interview with the publication, Police Sgt. Brett McNabb of Medina Police shared that the investigation is still too early so there is no follow-up information yet. However, police officials shared that they already recovered around US$7,000 of the total money.
McNabb added in the interview that not all the money was given out but a lot of students got a part of it. Also, some of those who were given the money already spent it with their guardians or parents on different products. McNabb shared that some of the properties and goods bought with the money were also recovered and the adults involved in the incident are being investigated.
According to ABC News, there is still no information available as to any charges that will possibly be charged against the teenager. The principal of the school where the teenager is studying at already released a statement saying that they are working with the police officials and will be working cooperatively with them.
