Michelle MacLaren has abandoned the upcoming movie "Wonder Woman." Emmy award winning director has quit the movie rather unexpectedly after getting associated with the project in November last with much fanfare and cheer.
"Given creative differences, Warner Bros and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct 'Wonder Woman' together," CNN quoted the statement released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
The movie is slated for release on June 23, 2017 and actress Gal Gadot is still attached to the project. Before her solo debut, the actress will make an appearance in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," which is due for release on March 25, 2016. It is yet not clear whether the unexpected departure of the movie's director will have any effect on the movie's release date or not.
"Wonder Woman" is a much awaited flick as it will be the first major female-fronted superhero movies, inspired from the comic book character. The Guardian reported that earlier, Warner Bros' ill-fated Halle Berry star "Catwoman" in 2004 and Twentieth Century Fox's spin-off "Elektra" in 2005 failed to shake the box office and performed rather poorly.
"Wonder Woman" would have been the directorial debut of MacLaren in the world of the big screen if she had continued with the project. The 49-year-old is an experienced TV show runner and soap director 'with some of the big the major shows' episodes including "Breaking Bad," "The Walking Dead" and "Game Of Thrones" in her kitty.
If the project "Wonder Woman" gets dumped in between due to its prolonged shuffling, it might prove to be a major blow to Marvel comic world and its other projects in pipeline including Aquaman, super villain combo Suicide Squad, The Flash, Shazam and Cyborg.
