Photos of the rumored successor to the BlackBerry Passport has leaked online, according to Financial Post. The smartphone only known as Oslo features rounded edge.
The photos first appeared on BlackBerry Central and was quickly picked up by other tech blogging sites. According to BlackBerry Central, the smartphone was quietly announced to a selected set of audience during the Mobile World Congress 2015 at Barcelona, Spain.
During the MWC 2015, BlackBerry revealed that it will release three new devices within the year. The company said that it will release a device with a physical keyboard, a smartphone with dual-curved display with sliding keyboard, and an ultra-high-end device sporting a Porsche Design.
Based on the latest leak, the "ultra-high-end device sporting a Porsche Design" could be a reference to the upcoming BlackBerry Oslo.
The BlackBerry Oslo's design is based on its predecessor, the BlackBerry Passport. People close to the company said that there would be improvement on the Oslo's hardware specs.
The new smartphone will have a square LCD screen with maximum resolution of 1440x1440. It will have a 13megapixel main camera and a 2mexapixel front-facing camera. It will also run on the latest BlackBerry OS 10.3.2 and will have a 3450mAh battery.
Despite the smartphone's impressive specs, it is rumored that it will be released outside of North America. The device was initially thought to be released in the Chinese market only but latest news from BlackBerry Central said that it will be released globally. The BlackBerry Oslo is estimated to hit the market by June 30.
BlackBerry has yet to issue a statement to confirm these rumors.
