A Missouri mother met her daughter for the first time 49 years after nurses from the hospital told her that the baby died three hours after childbirth.
Zella Jackson-Price, 76, was able to meet her supposed dead daughter, 49-year-old Melanie Diane Gilmore, through her grandchildren. Gilmore resides in Oregon with her three children, one boy and two girls, who are twins.
Gilmore was delivered earlier than expected and a nurse from a hospital called Homer G. Phillips told Jackson-Price that her daughter already passed away, according to KSDK. The publication reported that Gilmore was adopted months after although there was no information available as to how this happened. Also, the 49-yar-old became deaf at the age of three after suffering from measles.
The report added that the children of Gilmore started to look for their real grandparents last year with the help of Facebook and GoFundMe. To confirm that Gilmore and Jackson-Price are indeed related, a DNA test was also done.
According to the Facebook post of one of Gilmore's daughter in March, a fundraising account was created online to fund the reunion of the mother and daughter. Gilmore was videoed by her children and it was also posted on her daughter's page showing her reaction after knowing about what they did for her.
According to Jackson-Price, they are not yet sure what happened as to why Gilmore was pronounced dead but they will be seeking a lawyer regarding the incident.
Gilmore was fortunate enough to meet her biological mother but was not able to meet her real father since he is already deceased. Gilmore also met her siblings during the emotional reunion, ABC7 reported.
The story of Gilmore and Jackson-Price caused other people to come forward and talk about the same incident that this mother and daughter experienced. The possibility of Gilmore being kidnapped in 1975 is being considered.
