Dallas Cowboys ace footballer Greg Hardy has been suspended by the NFL for 10 games without pay for violating the Personal Conduct Policy. Hardy's actions committed against Nicole Holder last year has resulted in the suspension.
"There was sufficient credible evidence that Hardy engaged in conduct that violated NFL policies in multiple respects and with aggravating circumstances," the NFL said in a press release.
The defensive end was found guilty of harassing and threatening his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder to kill. The charges were, however, dropped when Holder did not appear in court and could not be located by the prosecutors, according to TIME.
The Cowboys knew that Hardy might be suspended by NFL, yet signed him to a one-year contract worth about $13 million in March, 2015.
In 2014, Hardy spent most of the time on the commissioner's exempt list; he played only one game.
The NFL press release also explains, "The NFL's investigation concluded that Hardy violated the Personal Conduct Policy by using physical force against Nicole Holder in at least four instances."
Furthermore, the press release explains that Hardy's act of violence "constitutes a significant act of violence in violation of the Personal Conduct Policy."
The suspension starts September 5, after the offseason, training, and the preseason games. Hardy will be ready to return after the 10th game of the season.
After missing all the preliminary 10 games, Hardy will first reappear in a game on the Thanksgiving, against his former team Carolina Panthers, NBC Sports reported.
In the beginning of this month, a North Carolina judge ruled that the NFL could check the photos supplied as evidence during the investigation.
Hardy has, however, filed a petition to expunge domestic charges on Tuesday.
In Hardy's best season in the NFL, he recorded 15 sacks and 40 tackles to get the Pro Bowl honors in 2013.
