"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" should not be considered as the sequel to the 2013 Superman film "Man Of Steel," according to Henry Cavill.
Speaking to MTV News at CinemaCon while promoting his film "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." with co-actor Armie Hammer, Cavill said, "I wouldn't call this a Superman sequel. This is Batman versus Superman. It's a separate entity altogether."
Cavill further explained that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is "introducing the Batman character and expanding upon the universe," which was kicked off by the 2013 film "Man of Steel."
Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, who are all in "Man of Steel," are also in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
Set to be released on May 6, 2016, the Warner Bros superhero movie received negative reactions from fans with its title "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" in 2014. Superman fans dislike that the title seems to imply that Batman is the more important superhero.
The complaints against the title are generally are about the order of the names of the two superheroes. For other fans, the title makes sense because mentioning Batman first in the title is just right since he is the antagonist, according to Forbes.
According to these fans, Batman is the aggressor and the confrontational one who starts the battle in the story. Therefore, he is the one who is versus Superman. But for other critics, using "v" is technically for legal purposes.
For these legal critics, the of "v" instead of the common "vs." implies that Batman is suing Superman in the story.
