The untimely death of "Grey's Anatomy's" star character Derek Shepherd is not going down well with the fans and they are pressuring the show's creator Shonda Rhimes to bring back the character into the popular show.
Fans signed a petition and more numbers are being added to it every hour. On the Apr. 23 episode of the show, Derek Shepherd was killed offin a horrific car accident.
The show is currently in its 11th season. Fans are horrified that they have invested ten years of their life into the show, only to see a popular character bumped off unceremoniously.
Courtney Williams started the online petition and she said that the show has inspired thousands - from becoming doctors to donating blood. She added that fans feel let down after the sudden death of one of the pillars of the show.
Williams also added that the way Shepherd was killed is also very uncharacteristic of the show, according to Hollywood Life.
Derek's on-screen wife Ellen Pompeo addressed the issue on the popular social networking site Twitter. She said in a statement that, "I have always said what keeps me going is the fans. Knowing we move you and inspire you. There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy. Husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children."
She also added that she feels honored to now enact a character who will need to get up each day and face life head-on, despite the fact that internally everything is in shambles.
