Bruce Jenner plans to sue the New York Daily News and CNN after these news publications published photos of him wearing a dress outside his Malibu mansion last week.
New York Daily News published the said photos on their front cover for the April 22 edition. Although the photos were grainy, the headline reads that the photo was the first look at the new Jenner. As for CNN, the photo was shown in a segment entitled "Caught on Camera: Bruce Jenner's New Look?" hosted by Don Lemon.
Illegally snapped by paparazzi, the photo showed the former athlete wearing a floor-length black and white striped dress that has a slit from the knee to the hem. Jenner was also smoking when he stepped out of his home at the time the photo was snapped.
After the photos were released online, the Olympic gold medalist complained that the photos obtained violated his privacy, Fox News reported.
The photos were already removed from both media outlets and a spokesman for Jenner, Alan Nierob, told Page Six that the photos were sold to CNN and New York Daily News illegally by X17. Nierob added that X17 is no longer selling the photos after it was confirmed that these were shot unlawfully.
The spokesman pointed out that it was taken via a telephoto lens, which was a mile away from where Jenner was at that time.
Under the law of California, photographers using telephoto lenses in order to take photos of people who are doing personal or family-related activities could be held responsible and be found guilty of invasion of privacy.
The attorney of 65-year-old Jenner, Marty Singer, said that it was clear how unlawful the photos were taken from a very long distance using an enhancement device so his client is really going to fight for his right to privacy.
The photos of Jenner made rounds on the internet just two days before his ABC interview with Diane Sawyer was aired.
