"Gotham" Season 1 finale features how Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin (Robin Taylor Lord) became "the king of Gotham." Season 2 presents the story of Joker.
The general story arc for "Gotham" Season 2 is expected to further develop the characters who were major players in Season 1 and explore DC Comics' Joker. Some of the Season 1 players, however, are not likely to make another appearance. FOX adaptation developer Bruno Heller explained how things ended for Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith).

"We knew ["Gotham" Season 1] was the story of Penguin's rise to power," Bruno Heller told The Hollywood Reporter. "[Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) is] the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We're going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be," Heller added.
Did the young Bruce Wayne just opened Gotham's batcave?
Toward the end of "Gotham" Season 1 finale, the future Dark Knight (David Mazouz) discovered his father's secret spot in the Wayne Manor. Many viewers believed it to be a teaser to DC Comics' batcave. Heller clarified that it is something else - at least for now.
"(T)he batcave only comes into existence when Bruce Wayne decides to become Batman. Call it his father's office," Heller told THR. The show boss also explained why Fish Mooney had to die in the "Gotham" Season 1 finale.
"She's such a domineering, powerful, imperious person that Penguin can't possibly be the crime lord in Gotham while Fish is around, especially if she has anything to say about it," Heller told Deadline.
"Gotham" got a Season 2 order from FOX earlier this year. For her part, Smith has hinted in March that her character would be leaving Gotham for good.
