"Gotham" Season 2 on Fox became official mid-January, but Jada Pinkett-Smith might not reprise her role as Fish Mooney. The actress recently talked in a U.S. daytime show, emphasizing that her "Gotham" contract is only for one year. Viewers are now asking, does Fish die or stay alive in the Season 1 finale?

"I signed for a year, and the year is up," Jada Pinkett-Smith told "Live With Kelly & Michael" on Mar. 5. The actress also gave a somewhat negative response on whether she was returning for "Gotham" Season 2.

"I don't think so," Pinkett-Smith said, on whether the fierce and passionate Fish Mooney. She did, however, share with the viewers a teaser: "(Gotham Season 1) is going to have an awesome finale!"

In the most recent episode of "Gotham" Season 1 (Episode 18), Fish Mooney finds herself in a position to rule an underworld operations that involve involuntary organ donation. She has been seeing some inhumane practices in the past episodes, which make her - a mob family icon - wince.

In "Gotham" Season 1, Episode 17, Mooney herself did something upon which many viewers grimaced in horror. In an attempt to gain control in the human organ operations, Fish plucked out one of her eyes with a spoon.

Pinkett-Smith's recent declarations came out after Episode 17 aired, which gave fans another reason to talk about Fish Mooney on "Gotham" Season 1.

"Fish Mooney is the coolest character, EVER! #Gotham #jadapinkettsmith," @NatashingtonD shouted-out on Twitter.

On the other hand, there are also "Gotham" viewers who couldn't care less about Fish Mooney. Twitter user @VideoWoz posted: "I just don't get where Fish Mooney's storyline is going and why I need to care.  #Gotham."

"Gotham" Season 1 viewers have been waiting to see what happens next to Fish and what is her link to the DC Comics universe from which the Fox series is based. Now that the scoop is out that Fish might not make it to Season 2 after all, the viewers' thoughts would be taking a different direction.

"Gotham" Season 1 airs Mondays on Fox. According to IMDB, the next new episode airs April 13.
