Ordon City, one of the 12 major subdivisions of Inner Mongolia and China, will take the responsibility to host this year's National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities from Aug. 9-17, China Daily reported.
The prefecture-level city will cater approximately to 7,500 athletes as well as 23,000 performers in various competitions and demonstration events.
According to the news site, there are almost 15,300 volunteers who generously offered their services for the said traditional event.
Over 5,300 volunteers are assigned in the different gaming events, while 10,000 of them will yield guidance to the city's different professions, the news site added.
New activities are also set to be featured this year, including the addition of the ethnic aerobatics game and the participation of Han athletes, a native ethnic from group East Asia, in the team and demonstration events.
It is estimated that over 100,000 people will be involved in the grand games.
Ordos is giving out all its efforts for the event's preparations. The city, which is awarded the "National Civilization City," "National Health City" and "Outstanding Tourism City," is expected to exhibit its most recent improvements.
The National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities is held every four years in different designated regions of China. It was developed from a performance of ethnic minorities sports held in 1953. The event aspires to uphold the traditional sport culture of ethnic groups and the fitness-for-all campaign
Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province located in the southwestern part of China, took over the 9th National Ethnic Games from Sept. 10-18 in 2011.
