Hong Kong-based Golden Network Asia has acquired the international rights to the newest Jackie Chan action-comedy film, “Railroad Tigers,” which will be directed by renowned filmmaker Ding Sheng.
The $50-million-budgeted film is a hark back to the golden age of Jackie's popular movies such as "Drunken Master II" and "Project A," only that this time, the project will welcome bigger action set-pieces and production values.
The film's producers hinted that his fans would definitely enjoy Jackie's latest movie project, as it will bring back the memories of the superstar's previous well-loved works.
"Railroad Tigers" follows the story of a railroad worker who, during the wartime in China in 1941, led a group of freedom fighters who made use of their knowledge of the train network to interrupt the Japanese wartime engine and get food for the famine-inflicted Chinese populace.
The movie will start filming this October and will be released in the same month next year, coinciding with China's National Day holidays.
Jackie and director Ding have previously teamed up for "Little Big Soldier," a period action-comedy film, and "Police Story 2013," a modern police-thriller that pulled in over $100 million from the Chinese box office.
Jackie has recently starred in the epic action film, "Dragon Blade," which gathered a whopping $120 million in China alone. The movie also featured Adrien Brody and John Cusack.
"Railroad Tigers" is also supported by the Shanghai Film Group, Beijing Going Zoom Media, Sparkle Roll Media Corp. and Shanghai New Culture Media Group.
