Oculus Rift will support 3D porn and can be used to watch immersive porn. The much-anticipated Virtual Reality is still in the manufacturing phase and will be launched in 2016.
Oculus Rift is an open platform and the company officials believe that they cannot control what applications it will be used to run.
At a San Jose conference, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey was asked if it could be used to run apps based on the adult industry. Luckey said the Oculus Rift is an open platform.
"We don't control what software can run on it," Luckey was quoted by Variety as saying.
Thus, the tech-savvy 3D virtual reality headset can be used to access pornographic games, interactive VR porn apps, X-rated explicit content and even the 3D porn films, as well.
Facebook acquired the company Oculus in 2014 for around $2 billion. Previously, the social media company has been very uptight about adult content and porn on their website. Therefore, the sudden change in stance comes as a complete surprise to see that it is open to allowing 3D porn on their VR headsets.
Facebook has faced a lot of flak for filtering out even breastfeeding images and post mastectomy images, according to News Everyday.
However all the apps which are available through the Oculus Store need to follow the Terms of Service regarding to pornographic content. However, there is a work around for this restriction and that is to use an independent distribution channel.
Samsung, Google and Sixense are also developing other Virtual Reality related products and they refused to comment on the possibility of airing adult related content on their products.
