Now, anyone can truly fly, but only with the help of a hoverboard. The hoverboard has been made into an iconic piece of future technology when it first appeared in 1989 with the movie release of Back to the Future II.
Michael J. Fox who was Marty McFly in the movie, flew on a pink hoverboard across a body of water which can be imagined as the futuristic version of a skateboard. However, what was once considered as stuff of Hollywood has now become a reality. The movie was set in 2015 and now it's finally here, some of the technology seen on the film has yet to become real but the hoverboard is here to stay.
The inventor of the real life hoverboard is Canadian Catalin Alexandru Duru who has developed and built one along with successfully testing it, claims that this hoverboard can be controlled with your feet where the user simply needs to stand on it, just like in the movies.
Unlike the hoverboard in the film, this real one is powered by small propellers and not by magnetic mechanisms. However, this hoverboard is designed with a rather large body and is not that flexible for everyday activities but this invention is still considered a milestone when it comes to DIY aviation engineering.
Duru tested his hoverboard over Lake Ouareau in Quebec where his goal was to make a new Guiness World Record for the longest journey ever made on a hoverboard. In order to get this title, he was required to fly at least 164 feet. He succeeded not only by flying once, but he completed the task by doing it five times over reaching 905 feet.
Duru claims that his new hoverboard can be used and flown anywhere but he only flies it over water since it can go over dangerous heights. He developed and built the hoverboard for a whole year where his next plans involve testing how high his hoverboard can soar.
