A photo of Beyoncé and Jay Z showing the power couple with their predominantly white Tidal staff in their Tidal office in Norway caused quite a stir on Twitter.
The picture in question, shared by the singer on Beyoncé.com, showed the 33-year-old singer and her husband in the middle of a smiling team for the subscription-based music streaming service. As soon as the pic became viral, the online commentators are quick to point out the staff of the Tidal is lacking in diversity and is majorly all-white.
"Learning that Tidal's star is almost all white men is infuriating, embarrassing and hypocritical," wrote one Twitter user, triggering an online debate on equality in jobs, Mirror reported.
Tidal is based in Norway and was created from the Norwegian streaming service Aspiro. Despite the fact that 97 per cent of the country is white, micro-bloggers have not restrained themselves in accusing the power couple of being racially biased.
The image comes just a few weeks after Jay Z expressed his disappointment with the black community for not supporting his music streaming service.
Meanwhile, it appears that Beyonce, the co-owner of Tidal, might to take her music off Tidal. According to reports from Vulture, Jay Z has yet to reach a deal on a streaming contract with Sony, which is reportedly asking for "large advances" in return for the rights to stream its artists' respective music. However, despite the furore, it is a far fetched possibility since Tidal has sounf financial backing and is likely not to take such extreme steps.
