The candidate list for the helmer of the upcoming Marvel film "Spider-Man" has been trimmed down to five directors.
Theordore "Ted" Melfi and Jonathan Levine are rivals for the directorship over the upcoming film, as per Deadline.
Melfi is known for helming the comedy-drama "St. Vincent," the short comedy "Roshambo," and the drama "Winding Roads" while the Ohio-based filmmaker Levine is known for his roles in the mystery-thriller "Shutter Island" and crime drama "American Gangster."
John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are also being considered as film directors for the upcoming "Spider-Man." They are known to direct the adventure-comedy film "Vacation."
Marvel's previous options for the director's chair also included "Napoleon Dynamite" filmmaker Jared Hess and "Pitch Perfect" director Jason Moore, but it is possible that they did not make it, as per Cinema Blend.
As of now, Marvel and Sony have not yet given their pick from "Ender's Game" star Asa Butterfield and "The Impossible" actor Tom Holland, "Deliverance Creek" actor Judah Lewis, "Kill the Messenger" star Matthew Lintz, "Boardwalk Empire" actor Charlie Plumer, and "Red Band Society" star Charlie Rowe.
Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are the frontrunners to play the new incarnation of Peter Parker while Matt Lintz and Charlie Rowe also gave solid imprint as contenders.
Spider-Man is set to debut in Joe and Anthony Russo's "Captain America: Civil War" before his upcoming solo film.
"Captain America: Civil War" is slated to premiere in theaters on May 6, 2016 while the new "Spider-Man" film is slated to premiere in theaters on July 28, 2017.
