South Korean tech giant Samsung is set to roll out the latest Android 5.1 update to its flagship Galaxy series of devices before the end of June. Among the first to receive the Android 5.1 update are Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge model.
Android 5.1 Lollipop was first released in mid-March with Google's flagship device, Nexus 5, receiving it first.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices were released in April. The devices came in with the stock Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system and Samsung did an impressive job of keeping its devices up to date by promptly releasing new Android updates.
According to Android Authority, Android 5.1 is a fairly critical update that will give updated devices native dual SIM support with several new features and performance tweaks. Based on the official changelog released by Google, the company made more than 14,000 changes in the Android 5.1 update.
While some of the changes made on the Android 5.1 update were specifically tailored for the Nexus 6, majority of the update were geared towards better Android optimization on other manufacturers like Samsung and HTC.
Among the changes highlighted in the Android 5.1 update is the patch that will fix the reported memory leak issue that affect devices running on the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. The reported memory leak cause apps to crash and sometimes automatically reboots the devices. Android 5.1 also updates the Wi-Fi toggle and can now be accessed on the Quick Settings right beside the Bluetooth toggle, according to NDTV Gadget.
