"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 has not premiered yet, but fans are already speculating that Ellen Pompeo, who plays the role of Meredith Grey, may exit the series for good.
Such reports were heightened by rumors that suggest Meredith's battle with Alzheimer's will be given emphasis this coming season.
According to Zap2It, Meredith tested positive for Alzheimer's in season 9 but this storyline was not given any focus in seasons 10 and 11. In fact, although fans do not want to see Meredith suffer from the disease, they are still curious as to how Rhimes could play out the story.
In the past, Rhimes has already killed off some of the most popular characters on "Grey's Anatomy," including the most recent one, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). With this, fans are certain that Rhimes will not have any problems killing off Meredith when she feels it is time to do so.
Meanwhile, there were also reports that season 12 will focus on some of the biggest changes in Meredith's life. Following the death of her husband, there is a chance that Meredith may or may not recover from the loss, KPopStarz reported.
Still, Rhimes confirmed that Meredith will become her own person in season 12. Now that Derek is dead and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) has already left the hospital, the character will have no choice but to rely on her friends.
This does not mean though that Meredith cannot fall in love. As of late, there are some speculations that a new character will be introduced and he could be Meredith's new lover.
