Two Filipino nationals have created quite a splash with their botched dive attempt at the current South East Asian Games, with authorities demanding an explanation to the duo's performance and accusing them of intentionally diving badly.
The video of John Pahoyo and John Fabriga has gone viral with many media reports dubbing the performance of the swimmers as one of the worst dives in the Game.
The viral footage of the Filipino contestants has garnered mixed views of their dive from a three metre springboard resulting in a painful near horizontal splash into the dive pool earning them a perfect zero score, according to Australia's News.
The Chairman of the Philippine Sport Commission, Richie Garcia however has not found the attempts by the two youngsters amusing and is awaiting an explanation from Aquatic Head Mark Joseph on their performance.
Contemplating if the bad dive was attempted intentionally, Garcia has said the President of the Philippines Swimming Inc. fought to have the divers compete at the Games, according to the Inquirer.
Visibly shocked at the performance of the Filipino divers, Garcia told the publication that he has seen the duo training at Rizal Memorial and remarked that they are good divers despite their failed dive.
Meanwhile, the video featuring the divers has attracted its fair share of laughs and has earned the duo the nickname of the "Splash Brothers." However, Pahoyo has taken the criticism in good spirit.
The diver has gone to the extent of commenting on the video posted online, saying "I even laughed at myself after I did this dive hehe." He further commented that he is not the first to fail at a dive and that he is proud to have represented his country at a big sporting event.
Many viewers of the video have posted comments praising Pahoyo for holding himself together despite the very public and embarrassing flop.
