Chinese superstar and Hollywood actor Jackie Chan has visited Nepal on June 9 to personally distribute 5,000 boxes of relief aid to the displaced families of the quake-hit Himalayan nation, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
"I felt coming to Nepal is more important than donating money. I want to tell the people of Nepal that you are not alone. We all own this world, this earth," Chan told Xinhua.
The plane carrying the international superstar landed in Kathmandu's Tribhuwan International Airport to bring support to the victims through his Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation in partnership with the Chinese Red Cross Foundation.
The people of Kathmandu received the actor with a warm welcome, chanting "Jackie Chan, Jackie Chan" as he arrived at the capital, where Chan was also greeted with flowers and a Khaada garland and given the traditional Nepali cap known as dhaka topi.
The superstar, who stayed for only a few hours, told Xinhua: "Disasters do not have a one-day recovery. It takes a few years so patience is necessary. The Nepalese people should not feel alone in this post-quake phase."
Chan's foundation handed over 5,000 disaster relief family packages to the Nepal Red Cross Society to be distributed in the worst-hit districts of Dhading, Dolakha, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk.
The 61-year-old superstar personally handed out the relief family boxes to the local people and also hugged and shook hands with some of the victims who were in wheel chairs.
Chan had earlier donated 100,000 Singapore dollars to the Nepal quake-victims in May.
The death toll in Nepal has reached 8,700 people and hundreds of thousands of houses have been destroyed, leaving many families displaced and living in makeshift shelters.
