The Korean mobile manufacturer Samsung is getting ready to release a software update for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, enabling the fast LTE-X. The software update will bring Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) for simultaneous transmission of Wi-Fi network and LTE network.
The Samsung company is gearing up to release this firmware update for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in Korea within the next two weeks.
Enabling LTE-X with Multipath TCP would enable Samsung's latest flagship smartphones achieve transfer speeds of up to 1.17 Gbps, greater than traditional LTE networks.
Multipath TCP increases the transfer speed of data as it brings together the 802.11ac Wi-Fi network and the 300Mbps Cat.6 LTE network simultaneously, enabling theoretical speeds to reach 1.17Gbps, Android Headlines reported.
However, in real life situations, the speeds are expected to range between 300Mbps and 400Mbps which itself is four times higher than traditional LTE.
One GB of data would take 8.5 seconds to download. CA, which is the fastest commercially available three-band communications technology, downloads 1GB of data in 28 seconds. Multipath TCP is three times faster than the three-band CA.
It is reported that Korean carriers are also gearing up to support LTE-X. They should be on board by the time Samsung enables the technology on its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge with the forthcoming update.
It is not known whether the company will push a similar update in other markets or not, according to Sam Mobile. However, carrier support for Multipath TCP and LTE-X is inadequate in other regions.
