With Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" dominating the box office, the director himself has revealed a reference to Joe Johnston's "Jurassic World III."
In his interview with MTV, Trevorrow revealed that that the skeleton the Tyrannosaurus rex smashed through belongs to the Spinosaurus in "Jurassic World III." The Spinosaurus is the main dinosaur in Johnston's film, replacing the Baryonyx.
In "Jurassic Park III," the Spinosaurus served as the main villain, attacking Alan Grant and his group after Amanda Kirby, Eric's mother attracted it with her megaphone. Also, the Spinosaurus had a fight with the great Tyrannosaurus rex, which was killed by the former by snapping its neck.
Trevorrow is also a "Jurassic Park" fan and for him, it is essential to give something special to the fans of the dinosaur franchise. Aside from the Spinosaurus, "Jurassic World" featured other references to its "Jurassic Park" predecessors, as per Cinema Blend.
These references include the "Jurassic World" gates, the old-school "Jurassic Park" jeepneys, John Hammond's bronze statue at the main visitor center, Simon Masrani as the new Hammond, Dr. Henry Wu, and the Tyrannosaurus rex.
Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" is the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise and is set 22 years following the incidents in Isla Nublar in Steven Spielbergs "Jurassic Park" in 1993. The Jurassic World theme park created a hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus rex, to boost its dwindling sales.
"Jurassic World" stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Brian Tee, Vincent D'Onofrio, and BD Wong, among others.
