The latest "Dance Moms" season 5 episode had sister Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler compete against each other. In the end, it was Mackenzie who won the competition with her jazz performance called "Sink or Swim." Sources close to the siblings revealed that Maddie did not take her defeat quite well.
In the episode, titled "Maddie vs Mackenzie," Maddie told her choreographer Travis Payne, that she "deserved to beat Mackenzie." The 12-year-old, however, was quick to add that although she was a little upset about her performance she was happy that her younger sister won.
Later in the episode, Maddie, however, seemed to have a changed of heart. Speaking to her mom, Melissa Gisoni, she claimed that she was affected by the loss because the competition was "stupid."
Meanwhile, "Dance Moms" co-star Jessalyn Siwa asked Gisoni what she felt about Mackenzie's win. Gisoni refused to answer the question but later revealed what she really thought about the results of the competition.
For Gisoni, the judges may have made the wrong decision, stating that although Mackenize looked "adorable and sweet," Maddie looked "fabulous." Her statement was quick to draw ire from several fans who pointed out that she was playing favorites.
After the "Maddie vs Mackenzie" episode aired, Gisoni took to Twitter to defend her statement. The reality star claimed that her comments were taken out of context and blamed the misunderstanding for the poor editing. Gisoni added that Maddie and Mackenzie were both talented and amazing dancers.
"Dance Moms" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
