Square Enix confirmed that the original "Final Fantasy 7" and its recently announced remake will have differences in storyline. Apart from having better graphics and full voice-overs, director Tetsuya Nomura expressed the fact that the company intends for the game to harbor an element of surprise for both new and old players.

According to Wired, Nomura declared that the company does not intend for the game to be a a simple rehash with better visuals, nor should the fans expect it to be a one-to-one remake. The original Playstation "Final Fantasy 7" writer Kazushige Nojima is back on board to facilitate the direction of the remake's story.

Nomura previously hinted the possibility of "Final Fantasy 7" deviating from the original source material. The director told Gamespot, "We've announced an HD port version on the PlayStation 4, and then we have the remake coming to PS4. You'll have this extremely, very, very pretty FFVII existing on the same plane. We feel that if that happens, it's like, why have the same exact game?"

But fans of the old game need not be alarmed. "There are certain plot points we don't want to interfere with or disturb, nor will we want to change elements that fans have very big attachments to," Nomura assures. "Final Fantasy 7" fans have long requested a remake of the game, and were largely caught by surprise by the E3 reveal that a remake is underway.

Square Enix also hints that the quality of the game visuals might exceed that of the graphics in the announcement trailer. In a translated Famitsu report, Nomura revealed that they will be raising the graphics quality even more, and part of the reveal trailer will be used in the game.
