The final version of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 will be released on July 20, nine days before the official launch date of Microsoft Windows 10. The toolset will include the Team Foundation Server 2015 source code management and collaboration product as well as the .Net Framework 4.6.
The announcement was posted by Microsoft corporate vice president of the developer division S. Somasegar on his official blog.
Somasegar said, "We are opening up Visual Studio to developers targeting new platforms - from cross-platform mobile development targeting iOS, Android and Windows, to game development targeting Unity, Unreal, Cocos and more."
According to The Register, the introduction of the Visual Studio 2015 will play a critical role to the overall success of Windows 10 which is aimed as a universal platform encompassing desktop, mobile and consoles.
Some of the bundled tools that comes with Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 were outsourced to other parties which includes Xamarin for compiling and running C# apps on Mac, Android and iOS. Additionally, the Apache Cordova project let developers create cross-platform mobile apps with JavaScript and HTML.
Some tools deemed not ready for the final release were excluded from the Visual Studio 2015 toolset and will have a separate release date once ready. These include Project Astoria which allows porting of Android application to Windows 10 Mobile, Project Centennial for packaging Windows desktop apps for the Windows Store and Project Islandwood used for compiling Objective C on Windows 10.
Microsoft will host an online release event for the Visual Studio 2015 on July 20 at 8:30 am PDT. On the event, developers and users will have a Q&A session with the Microsoft engineering team behind the project.
